Today we want to turn our gaze to all the wonderful women of Darren James Interiors!
We’re so thankful of the whole team that make our projects possible – from the designers in the studio, the projects team and all the trades on site! But todays it’s about the ladies in the studio, and getting their perspectives on an important question…
So what do you love most about being a woman in the design / construction industry?
_
“I am fortunate enough to work with a powerhouse of female talent every day. Individually each of them owns their space – all from different backgrounds, with unique experiences and all on different journeys. The one thing that unites them all though is their mutual respect and support of each other.”
– Elissa, Manager & Creative Director
“What do I love most about being a woman in the design and construction industry? Oh gosh..so many things! I love that nearly everywhere I go bubbles are offered. I love the typical “smart casual” designer’s dress code which allows me to express myself in ways that the other industries may not! I love opening my email and seeing women designers and women led design firms continuously making headlines on the top design publications. I love the fact that I get to work so closely with so many different trades and am able to pick their brains so I have a better understanding on what I am designing. I love every bit of this industry and am so glad I am able to be a part of it!”
– Kari, Senior Interior Designer
“I think my favourite thing has to be the level of collaboration involved in projects. Despite being the ‘minority’ in the industry, the culture of women we have who support each other is so empowering to be apart of. With that being said,
design and construction projects rely heavily on a team of people from various expertise. Ranging from the initial design phase right through to tackling problems on the construction site. I think just having the opportunity to be immersed in that environment and
share and learn from each other (no matter your role or gender) is so eye opening and fulfilling!”
– Claudia, Interior Designer
“The thing I love most about being a woman in the design industry is that it is the perfect platform to empower and encourage our most creative parts. There is such a sense of support among women in this industry, it’s not somewhere where women are competing with each other but instead encouraging each other and pushing our design passions. It’s amazing to be able to show our creativity and skills. There are so many opportunities for women to grow within the industry at the moment and it is exciting to be a part of it.”
– Stefanie, Interior Designer
“What I love most about being a woman in the design industry is the camaraderie within the design community – I love how women support each other across the industry and promote a shared love for all thing design. I’m constantly inspired by the work of leading female designers and it’s exciting to see so many female lead studios doing amazing things!”
– Shirley, Interior Designer
“Ever since I was a little girl I knew I wanted to grow up and do something creative with my life – so I’ve always found so much comfort in finding an industry where you feel like you truly ‘belong’ and can stand on your own two feet proudly as a creative woman! I also love seeing ideas turn into reality onsite, and all the construction knowledge + details we’re able to soak up from the trades!”
– Kirsty, Marketing & Support
“Working collaboratively and seeing ideas grow, be nurtured and develop into outstanding creations. I love working in a team where we all bring ideas to the table and most of all, take a positive, problem solving and proactive approach to everything that comes our way.”
– Greer, Purchasing & Procurement
“Working alongside other powerful, creative, talented women here at DJI who change the way people live on a daily basis and who are a constant inspiration!”
– Kelly, Accounts & Project Co-Ordinator
