As December rolls in, so begins the festive decorating. For those who celebrate, holiday decor can be a really special tradition where a lot of fun memories with friends and loved ones are made!
So what better place to start this years festive decor, than your front door!
Seasonal front door styling is a great way to welcome your guests whilst also giving them a real feel for your own unique design aesthetic. By no means does festive styling need to involve red or green, nor does it need to involve changing out your whole home. Rather, it’s some simple (often found at home) additions that make the biggest impact.
In keeping with the season of giving, we thought we would share some of our top tips when it comes to creating the perfect front door this festive season…
Tip # 1 – Establish a theme
We have said it before but we will say it again… whether you’re decorating a full house or just your font door, it’s imperative you have a clear vision before embarking on a styling mission!
Shopping for Christmas decor is exciting and it’s easy to get caught up with it all and over do it… so first things first (yes, even before the shopping spree!), establish a theme! It will not only help inspire your creativity but it will also ensure your vision stays on track. Here is what we started with for our look and feel this year…
We recommend starting with one feature; this could be your wreath, a specific door mat you love, a colour that you are super into, or even a special Christmas decoration that you love to use every year. Once you have that down pact, then you can build from there.
Tip # 2 Wreath it out
This year we opted for soft tones and loads of texture and collaborated with our local florist Luxe Botanica to create this stunning long lasting wreath! The dried floral arrangement emanates our raw and natural theme and allowed us to pair all our other styling pieces to complement our colour palette.
We love how it turned out! x
Tip # 3 – Garland all the way…
Whilst most garland adds a somewhat traditional touch, you really can create garland from pretty much anything and it’s a great opportunity to add a modern twist or interpretation depending on your style of course. We love to use it to frame the door and this year we went for the asymmetrical look in keeping with our wreath design. Warning – NOT recommended for those who crave symmetry – it will send your OCD to the next level.
Tip # 4 THE TREE!
Depending on your theme, your options here are endless… but for me, there is nothing that says Christmas more than the smell of a real living Christmas tree. This year we picked up ours from the lovely Flourish by Dorset Bottega – word of warning though, they have the most beautiful online store so you could be lost for some time. And don’t forget to subscribe to get a heads up on their next open day (you will be seriously blown away by how inspiring their gardens are).
To be honest the tree really does not need any decorations at all so we kept it super simple and added a few dried flora just to tie everything together.

Tip # 4 Layering
Styling for Christmas doesn’t always need to mean all brand new additions. By simply swapping out your door mat or layering it with another you can welcome your family and friends the festive way! We chose a rose quartz pink in keeping with our theme to add a pop of colour.
Tip # 5 Light it up
Last but certainly not least, LIGHTING!
There is something so magical about Christmas lights! Super simple and sets the scene for those warm summer nights!
Happy Styling! x
