Welcome to Tallowwood Residence – a stunning private property, encased in the native greenery within the Gondwana Forest in Northern NSW. Our clients truly entrusted us to transform their architecturally designed home into a space that fulfilled their passion for cooking and entertaining with their beloved family and with friends.
The existing architecture of the home set the direction of the design aesthetic for this project. With it’s mid century style guiding many of the architectural details such as striking long horizontal lines, timber cladding, and elevated living spaces. This home, whilst true to it’s character, surely lacked functionality for this modern family. Our goal was to build upon and compliment the existing by giving new life to the tired spaces. The result? The epitome of mid-century modern elegance!
The expansive kitchen, serving as the centrepiece of this culinary haven, showcases an exquisitely crafted kitchen island. Joinery clad in Shou Sugi Ban timber cladding compliments the robust structure of Canova marble legs and frame. Set against custom bronze detailing, this island, aside from its striking character, provides substantial space for meal preparation and serves as a gathering spot for family and friends.
The state of the art range of appliances including Sub- Zero integrated refrigeration as well as a suite of Wolf cooking appliances, makes for a perfect home culinary experience.
Beyond the concealed restaurant style double swing door lies the scullery – a true hidden gem! All the necessary practical features are encompassed in this area, including abundant hidden and visible storage to ensure optimal functionality. Furthermore, it boasts a generous clean up zone fit with a large sink and custom wet deck. And the icing on the cake is the 3-in-1 Zip Tap providing the clients with instant hot, chilled, and sparkling water.
No detail was spared in creating a kitchen and scullery that truly elevates the art of home cooking and entertaining!
The living room boasts remarkable architectural detailing, including a raised floor and a corner window that pays homage to the mid-century aesthetic of the home. With these elements already in place, only the final touches were needed to elevate comfort, providing our clients a space to convene, unwind as a family, and engage in conversations with guests.
The sage green wool carpet by Cavalier Bremworth acts as the foundation for this cosy nook, perfectly complimenting the existing timber floor and custom joinery.
We layered plenty of artwork, books, and styling pieces as a means of injecting character and personality that reflected our clients interests and hobbies including the kids school crafts, their favourite music books, and one off pieces such as the checkered bowl from from Australian Ceramicist, Samantha McIntyre.
Beyond a set of bi-fold doors lies the indoor-outdoor living area, adorned with a beautiful wood burning fireplace and convenient wood storage. Upon opening and stowing away these doors, the boundaries between kitchen, dining, and living areas dissolve, giving rise to a generous space where the family can unwind and where those special celebrations find their perfect stage.
We wanted to create something unique for the client that blurred the line between old and new, and we feel this renovation within the beautiful Tallowwood Residence did just that.
