If you know us, we’re a team full of people that aren’t afraid of a nice dinner out! We’re always lusting over the latest and greatest restaurants, and you can trust that one of the team have a review to share in the studio from their latest findings each weekend!
So we wanted to turn our eyes to Melbourne for the first of our ‘Design Tick of Approval’ series. We’ve gathered up a bunch of stunning restaurants, bars and cafes in Melbourne to share with you. Plus this will create a great dining ‘hit list’ for all of the designers heading down to Decor & Design this weekend (or your next trip down there).
ARCHER’S
Design by DKO Architecture / Located in Docklands / Photographed by Nicole England
–
“Located in Melbourne Marriott Docklands, Archer’s is a contemporary, sophisticated dining space.
DKO Architecture drew inspiration from the 1960’s New York hotel/restaurant scene when business-types dined alongside socialites. Emphasised by its vaulted ceiling, the setting demanded a destination concept, where hotel guests stay to eat and Melbournian’s travel to experience.”
AUTERRA WINE BAR
Design by IF Architecture / Located in Armadale / Photographed by Sharyn Cairns
–
“Auterra Wine Bar invites guests to explore the subtlety and complexities of wine through colour, texture and theme. Familiar, but new, Auterra Wine Bar is a sensory pleasure, an escape.”
ENTRECOTE
Design by Brahman Perera / Located in Prahran / Photographed by Lillie Thompson
–
“Entrecôte’s new Prahran home reflects an evolution of the much-loved venue, while celebrating its signature sense of charm and decadence. Inspired by the treasured hospitality institutions that once graced Greville Street, Entrecôte is driven by a sense of grace, joy and conviviality.”
SMITH STREET BISTROT
Design by Anthology / Located in Collingwood / Photographed by Alex Squadrito
–
“A romantic and atmospheric french bistrot designed within a heritage envelope with the intent to envoke and inspire guests to immerse themselves in the beauty that is timeless design, bespoke detailing and a fully curated hospitality experience.”
SQUARE & COMPASS
Design by Flack Studio / Located in East Melbourne / Photographed by Anson Smart
–
“Square & Compass explores detail and materiality at a lower level spatially – the importance of a neighbourhood institution was the forefront – referencing Carlo Scarpa’s Fundazione Querini Stampalia – expressing his architectural detailing and micro details at large. Honest materiality throughout: was paramount to creating this timeless space.”
YUGEN TEA BAR
Design by Curious By Design / Located in South Yara / Photographed by Marcel Aucar
–
“Yugen tea bar envelops you into a deep underground like environment, the space creates a subterranean scene where highly textural finishes are used in all elements. A new bar concept with teas sourced from all over the world, showcasing the art of brewing, served with designer desserts and cocktails.”
TOKYO TINA
Design by Ewert Leaf / Located in Windsor / Photographed by Jenah Piwanski
–
“Tokyo Private is an adjoining Private Dining space to Chapel Street restaurant Tokyo Tina. The space is centered around a large communal dining table handcrafted out of maple burl, seating 26 patrons for a unique dining experience.
