Storage, there just never seems to be enough of it in any home no matter how hard any of us try! Sometimes for many it can feel overwhelming to clean through the whole house and just not have enough space for anything. Let alone a way of trying to make it look visually pleasing at the same time. Often we find that one of the most common problems our clients come to us with when redesigning any room in their home, is that there isn’t enough (if any) storage space suitable for their needs. Due to this missing quality in most properties, it is always at the core of our designs to incorporate as much storage as possible and maximise spacial opportunities.
So lets have a chat about how we incorporate storage into all rooms, and how we do it in a way that is not only practical but aesthetic too!
OPEN SHELVING –
We always love adding a good open shelf where ever we can in our projects. They are not only a great storage solution to maximise spare wall space but also a wonderful styling tool. Whether its in the working areas like the pantry or laundry, or the living spaces of the home open shelving can house almost anything you need – kitchen ingredients, books, indoor plants or perhaps some woven baskets.
UNDER BENCH STORAGE –
Adding storage to otherwise wasted spaces below bench or window seating can be a wonderful way of not only maximizing floor space but also adding eye catching joinery details. Our favorite combination is some rich timber joinery, custom leather seating and a few decorative cushions – perfect way to create a retreat style nook to relax in, so why not add the benefit of extra storage?!
VARYING SOLUTIONS –
By mixing up your storage solutions and providing varying options in your wardrobe or pantry, you create a home for everything – the big and the small. Combining open shelving, with hanging space and generous drawers allows for a well organised space that looks considered and presentable. Plus it makes putting the laundry away a much more enjoyable task!
UTILITY CUPBOARDS –
Utility cupboards are an absolute essential for us, and they feature in our projects more often then not! Wherever a space allows for one, or three it is always at the top of our priority. Integrating a workable bench space, with shelving, drawers and power make for a perfect prep area which can be completely concealed when not in use. No where else I’d want to make my morning cuppa and avo toast!
