The bathroom… the first space we often go to when we wake up, and generally the last place we go to when winding down before calling it a night.
Given it is such a valuable space and a important part of of our daily routine and rituals, it’s worth taking the time to make your bathroom feel that little bit more luxe and relaxing! Yes selecting beautiful tiles & tapware is important, but it’s the layering and styling that follows that can really define a space!
So here are some of our tips that will give your bathroom that fresh, relaxed and soothing vibe it deserves – without breaking the bank!
Adding Texture
Yes, choosing super soft everlasting towels is a great way of adding texture and colour, but don’t forget the floor! Look beyond your standard bath mats… how about a bathroom rug? There is such a variety of materials out there suitable for your bathroom which means you can completely cater it to your space. However before you get carried away there are some consideration you need to make… firstly there are specific characteristics about the rug that you should check for to ensure it can handle it’s watery surroundings so we recommend a rug that is either moisture resistant of moisture durable. Cotton, wool, even outdoor sisal are extremely durable materials and they are capable of drying out quicker than other rug fibres. Secondly, ventilation – we wouldn’t recommend a rug in a bathroom that has little to no natural ventilation, despite the rugs being labelled as durable they do need to dry out quickly to avoid moisture being trapped in or underneath!
Creating Ambience
We’ve said it before and we will say it again, it’s extremely important from the get go that you nail the lighting in your bathroom…task lighting is super important for those more fiddly grooming tasks, and just as important is your low-level mood lighting for when it’s time to wind down. And nothing creates ambience more than the flicker of candle!
Add in a stool
Often not the first styling piece thought of when it comes to the bathroom styling but ultimately can work in any space! Whether it be for your walk in shower, beside your free standing bath tub or simply to tuck under your vanity. Besides being super functional, they are also a great way of introducing another material and a freestanding furniture element to an otherwise built-in space. Timber stools in particular introduce a soft warmer element. But no need to stop at just the stool, try your hand at styling the top of your stool as well, that could be a small cute pot plant or even your favourite bath salts.
Layer a Vanity Tray
With our daily routines and rituals comes our daily essentials ~ lip balm, moisturiser, face wash, perfume etc. If there was such thing as limitless storage… the bathroom would need it most! Yes, I agree having them on your vanity is super convenient (especially on those mornings when you’ve snoozed your alarm one too many times!!), but a piled up mess of products on your vanity is not the way to start the day! Now before you start transferring all that clutter into a drawer or cupboard, here me out…. with a little extra styling your daily essentials can become part of your styling! My best advice is to find a small tray to place all your bits and pieces on, this will instantly make it look more intentional!
Bring in Some Life
Last but certainly not least, is bring some life into the space by adding some living plants! Whether it’s sitting pretty on your vanity or draped over an open shelf, they don’t need be huge to make a huge impact! But choose wisely, not every plant thrives in a bathroom! Be sure to do your research focusing mainly on plants that thrive in humidity, a couple of my go-to favs are the philodendron & English Ivy. Basically plants that will survive on their own – perfect for those who lack in plant prowess!
