Many of us dream of big, spacious kitchens with room for every little thing we need. But the reality is, a lot of homeowners do not have a big space to cook and clean and making the most of what you do have is essential. There are plenty of ways to make your kitchen appear bigger, but here are some of our favourites:
Two-in-one
Items and fittings with multiple uses are a great solution for small spaces. Think appliances that do the job of many, chopping boards that can fit over the sink and cup holders that double as a drying rack, just to name a few.
Light it up
One of the best ways to enhance your space and make use of every nook and cranny is with good lighting. Shadows and unlit spaces can make a room appear cramped and prevent you from using valuable space. Ensuring the room is bright and without shadows will help maximise the space both in appearance and practicality.
Storage solutions
The kitchen is all about storage and sometimes this can make it seem cluttered and small. Clever storage solutions can make the most of the space you have and ensure it looks neat and clean. Some examples include corner cupboards, custom drawers and hidden spaces, among others.
Going up
A small kitchen may seem limiting but don’t just think horizontally! Instead, go up with shelving and cupboards high on the walls, using space that is typically forgotten. By storing appliances and crockery higher up, you will free up more space to move around and fit extra storage in an often untouched space.
Mirror magic
This goes hand in hand with lighting. Mirrors are a great tool for adding the appearance of space, reflecting light and creating the illusion of a larger area. By reflecting more open space, it looks like the kitchen goes on forever, reflecting light to illuminate the area and, if you have an open plan home or unit, reflecting the rest of the home.
