The evolution of the television has sadly meant watching the screen size constantly grow bigger and bigger… for some the bigger the better, but as designers this can often mean a bit of an eye sore in the living room! Ever wondered why you never see the TV centre stage in a design magazine?!? Finding the balance between the rest of your furnishings and these over-sized black boxes can prove to be quite the challenge!
So if you love netflix but are not a fan of how the TV looks in your living room, it maybe worth consider some ways to conceal it….
Pop up System
It’s good to know there are companies out there that are on the same page as us… TV pop up systems from companies such as ultra lift or linak are the perfect solution at completely getting rid of your TV all together when not in use. This solution would have to be thought out prior to the design of the living room to ensure that you have a joinery piece below that the mechanical system can sit within.
Drop down
Much like the one above, there are mechanical systems out there that can hide your TV from above! I don’t see it often but if you’re space calls for it, it can be the perfect solution.
Create art wall / Art TV
This is a some-what new solution to jump on board, and we are huge fans! This is the perfect solution for anyone with a fireplace below or high ceilings that don’t necessarily cater for a mechanical system to be put in place. Plus, why not combine both your TV and art work all in one?!? We aren’t huge TV watchers at home, so fusing the two together saves on space and money!
TV into mirror
I’m really here for the idea of have a multi-purpose TV! Maybe you have your art work covered? How about a mirror? It is such a subtle addition but certainly hides that fact that there is a giant TV on your wall! Mirror’s are such a practical styling piece for many spaces, by making it feel more open and having the capability of reflecting natural or artificial light throughout the space!
Built – in Joinery
For those not interested in buying a brand new TV – concealing your TV behind some beautiful joinery with sliding panels is the perfect fix. Engaging somebody to customise your joinery can make for an even more personalised design that’s perfectly suited to your TV and surrounding living room!
Dark wall / paint
Now we know not everyone is willing to completely scrap their living room and start from scratch, it can simply come down to just focusing on the wall your TV sits against – as simple as some paint or wallpaper. Choosing a darker colour will help your TV blend into the back ground and thus taking the focal point of the space to a beautiful piece of furniture or art work instead!
