We are officially back for the year! As the team starts back in the studio this week, and Darren and Elissa wrap up their family holiday in Japan it is safe to say we are all ready for a big year! Excited for all that 2020 will bring for us here at Darren James. The ups, the downs, the challenges and the celebrations – we are ready for it all!
So as we start the new decade we thought what better way to ring in the 20s that with a quick home update. We’ll cover off the five ways to re-fresh your home to start this new year right.
FRESH PAINT
Paint is the best way to update on a budget. Nothing makes a home feel fresher than a new crisp paint job. Don’t be sacred of colour and above all else avoid the dreaded “feature wall”. If you’re needing a little inspiration definitely check out our paint blog, were we talk paint prep work, interior and exterior, finishes and the way lighting can have an affect.
NEW RUG
A large feature rug is the best investment you can make in your living room. It instantly grounds and anchors a space and breathes new life into old furniture. Regarding colour and shape luck favours the bold so don’t be afraid to experiment by bringing shape and colour into your home (and life). Apart from that it’s also a great excuse to re-arrange the furniture and make your old space feel new again.
FIXTURE SWAP OUT
A tired bathroom can ruin your morning routine and though you may not want to invest in a whole new bathroom (though feel free to call us if you do!) refreshing you tapware and fixtures can extend the life of your space and give a feeling of freshness in the bathroom. Careful attention too specifications are needed to ensure your new selection works with your old plumbing!
SEASONAL GREENERY
Potted greenery instantly adds calm and freshness to a home. Try varying height of plants clustered together and above all don’t forget to water your new investment as nothing is sadder than a wilted plant death. If you need some inspiration check out our previous blog – ‘Guide to indoor plants’ which runs through the best plant options for every situation.
