Something about the start of a new year just gets my cleaning urge going! There is just something about the sense of new beginnings and new opportunities that come with the start of a new year (and new decade!) Some may look at it as just another day or month, but personally there is always such excitement that comes with the changing of the calendar and all that it will bring!
So as we are getting ready to clean out the linen cupboard, cull the dreaded plastics drawer and steam clean the entire house – we can’t help but feel the urge for change. So whether it’s your bedroom, bathroom or living spaces that need a refresh we feel you. So we have put together a few simple ways you can give your bathroom spaces a face lift and inject a new personality. A couple of simple swap outs in the way of styling items and you have a fresh new look!
WHY NOT ADD A RUG?!
If your bathroom allows for it why not add a rug? Placement is key, whether it’s running along the front of a vanity or perhaps a round rug in front of bathtub. An organic shaped rug can work really well to add a point of difference to your space. Can be a good idea to play on texture or colour depending on your style to inject a unique character. Synthetic material is best due to the moisture in bathroom, so materials like polyester, nylon or bamboo are most practical.

MIXING UP YOUR TOWELS
Your towels are another great way to add texture and colour to your wet area – in fact they can act as art. Don’t be afraid to mix your towels up too. Just like cushions they don’t all have to match as long as they are cohesive and work together.

ADD A FREE STANDING STOOL
You can’t go past a free standing stool, especially next to a bath – functional and great to style. Selecting a stool made from timber adds a sense of lovely warmth, no matter what the finish. Definitely wouldn’t look past a shower stool either, needless to say we have been slightly inspired by the recent trip to Japan!

THE PERFECT AROMA
The key is in the ambiance. Can honestly say that my happy place is definitely a pamper night in the bathroom with the perfect candle. Setting the right ambiance through smell is the perfect way to create that spa retreat atmosphere at home.

BASKET OBSESSED
Our obsession with baskets is one we aren’t giving up any time soon. So whether it’s a home for your guest towels, toilet rolls or laundry – a basket is always a good way to go! There are so many beautiful woven baskets from the likes of morocco that are sure to add a natural yet rustic feel to your bathroom.
DECORATIVE TRAY ESSENTIALS
A staple of our is always the decorative tray – perfect for styling a vignette of your favorite hand soap, towel and candle. Materials such as organic timber, marble, mother of pearl or brass make for a beautiful feature tray.

ARTWORK
This is a little controversial but I’m all for artwork in a bathroom. As long as you have the moisture and humidity under control and you are selective with what you hang. By no way am I saying you need to be hanging an irreplaceable piece of art, but consider the materiality and mediums used. When it comes to hanging – like anything you hang or fix in a bathroom on tiled wall you will need to drill through the tile and put some sort of wall plug or wall mate in first and screw into that. Alternatively, we recently completed a bathroom for a client and they decided to have a ceiling hanging track system installed so they didn’t need to drill into the walls. This allows them to forgave artwork when they feel the need, or change art size / scale with ease.
