Bedsides are an element of the bedroom that hold a different purposes for every one, whether it be a home for your reading lamp, reading glasses, a photo frame, essential oil diffuser or all of the above.
We are aware there are a lot of myths lingering around about bedsides, which seem to make shopping for them appear quite… boring. However, when it comes to selecting your bedsides you actually have so much flexibility with various sizes and forms to reflect your personal needs and desires which also means – an opportunity for design!
Today we will be busting the most common bedside table myths and sharing our thoughts and ideas when it comes to selecting your perfect pair, whether it be for your guest room, kids room or your very own!
Your bedsides need to be matching…
Having two bedsides can be very aesthetically pleasing in a bedroom to balance out the space, but who said they need to match?!? As long as you have consistency and harmony in other aspects of your bedroom such as through the colour scheme, then we say go for it! A combo of traditional + minimal or a stool + table are just some ideas to get you started… but really the sky is the limit!
Your bedside must be a table…
A very common misconception is that your bedside must be a standard table. Instead, bring out the designer within yourself and choose something completely unique to you and your space! A fun stool or a side table with a unique form will certainly do the trick! This can be particularly effective in a guest bedroom where storage isn’t exactly high on the priority list, but aesthetics definitely are!!
Your bedside must have storage…
Speaking of storage, many people opt for chunky bedsides with plenty of storage thinking it’ll give them a ‘tidy look’ but this isn’t always the solution… Don’t get me wrong, having concealed storage is super convenient, but having oversized furniture can make a space feel cramped and take away from this ‘tidy look’ you’re trying to achieve.
Let’s be real these drawers typically just collect bits and bobs that won’t be touched for half a year anyway, so if you’re wanting a more minimal feel, I suggest doing a good clear out and maybe opt for a more simplistic design to give some relief to the rest of the space.
Your bedside must be square/ rectangle to suit your bed…
Think outside the box… or should I say boxy bedside. There are sooo many different designs and styles available these days and sticking to a traditional bedside could be the wrong move… a more organic and raw form may suit the relaxed linen draped across your bed. Try to understand your design language and look at all your options before narrowing down to one!
You must have bedside tables…
Recently we have been seeing bedsides be switched out for built in vanities. The idea derived from modern hotel room designs, but it can honestly be used in your own home too! If the space in your room and lifestyle allows… I wouldn’t complain about only have to take a couple steps out of bed to get ready on those rough mornings!
Alternatively a desk is a great idea for kids in school that require a private study space but are lacking extra room throughout the house.
