How is it that time of year again…back to school! Seems it just keeps coming around quicker than ever, and the kids growing up faster than we would like to admit. So as I’m sure many of you are preparing to enjoy the last weekend before the kids go back and madly trying to get them organised for the year ahead. We thought we would put compile a few of our top design ideas for organizing your home. Its crucial to ensure the school drop offs are as stress free as possible so having an effective way of organising those school bags, lunches and too many school uniforms to keep track is really important.
So here are some ideas you could make use of around the house to improve your morning school run or afternoon homework session.
MUDROOMS –
A mudroom in definition is “a small room or entryway where footwear and outer clothes can be removed before entering a house”, but we know it has the potential of being so much more if designed well. The location of the mudroom is the most important factor of all, to ensure the space is convenient and efficient for your homes individual needs. With layouts and uses of entryways different from house to house, it is crucial that you locate your mudroom at the first point of entry. Whether that’s through the main front door, the garage or through the laundry into the home, that first room you enter / exit should house the mudroom.
We don’t often get the chance to design many mudrooms but definitely something we would love to start incorporating into our projects more.

GARAGE JOINERY –
Whether it’s a thin narrow nook in your garage, or wide hallway space, in-built joinery is the perfect way to utilize the space effectively. Adding over head storage, wall fixed bench seats or floor to ceiling cup boards is a great way to not only maximize storage but give your garage personality and identity to be enjoyed on your rush in and out of the house. Even the tiniest of spaces can be effective in keeping the household organised, plus a nice spot for beautiful finishes and fun joinery details!

MAXIMISING YOUR ENTRY –
There is nothing better then a beautiful entry space! A must for your entry area is definitely bench seating! As you come back home, the first priority is most likely to take a seat and remove your shoes after a long day. Incorporating a bench seat can be done in a number of ways whether it’s a floating timber feature, a built in storage unit or long bench furniture piece. Adding storage beneath and a few soft furnishings like seat cushions will ensure the space is both practical and inviting.

STUDY NOOKS –
With school homework on the horizon we think its definitely time to refresh that study space. We love the way study nooks can be used to make the most of an otherwise wasted space, such as the landing of a stairwell or the void areas beside cabinetry. Creating a built in desk and floating shelf can be an easy way to fit it in. Whilst extra storage solutions, feature splash backs and paired back styling aid in creating a gorgeous work area the kids (and you) won’t want to leave.
