To live through your renovation… or to move out? This is a question we get all the time!
Truth is, there is no right or wrong answer. No doubt the extra expense of moving out and relocating plays a huge factor in your decision as it’s a significant financial outlay. But how do these costs weigh up against the disruption that living through the renovation can cause you and your family?!
At the end of the day, it comes down to being informed and by this I mean knowing exactly what living through a renovation (no matter the size) involves and will look like.
Lets break it down…
1.TIME FRAME
Just like you, we are eager to see the finished product come to life and we want things to run as quickly and efficiently as possible! When clients choose to live through the renovation, the time frame of the project is always impacted, and quite significantly. Of course we want you to feel as comfortable as possible in your own home, so that typically means dividing the project up into stages to be completed one after another to ensure that there is always services and bedrooms accessible – away from the construction. So rather than smashing out all the trade work at once, you will be reliving the same renovation process multiple times over…
2. COSTS
I know that not every body budgets in a holiday or an additional rental when planning a renovation, however there are additional costs you must weigh up that are involved in living through a renovation as well. Like I said earlier, when clients choose to live through a renovation, the project must be divided into stages, (this may mean doing one bathroom at a time to ensure there is always one that’s usable for the clients) which will double the time frame of the project and like they all say… time = money , so this is something you will need to factor into your budget, with trades making not one, but two maybe even three separate trips which all comes at additional costs…
Now I don’t know about you, but I’d much rather be putting my money towards a holiday than additional trips for tradesmen that isn’t all that necessary.
3. DISRUPTION
Now this may seem like an obvious one… but unless you have lived within a construction site before (big or small), you probably wouldn’t understand the level of disruption that is involved… and how that will impact your sanity! To say it straight… no matter how strong your relationship with your builder is, living within a construction site isn’t fun… not only will you be dealing with noise and dust but having multiple trades working for majority of the day means quite literally sharing the same space which will no doubt impact your privacy and standard way of living in your home…
Ultimately, we prefer for the clients to move out. It means we can get in and get the work done with minimal disruptions along the way. With that being said, there is nothing better than seeing the clients come home to a complete transformation of their home!
