As the days grow shorter, the air becomes a little crisper, and the leaves start to change, naturally our homes become our escape haven and we crave a cosier interior!
One of the most important parts about the transitioning of seasons is adapting your interiors to suit. While the thought of a complete makeover can be daunting for many of us, the good news is that there are plenty of simple design tips that can make a big impact without requiring a lot of effort. So, if you’re looking to create a warm and inviting atmosphere for your family and friends this autumn, here are six easy ways to update your space with seasonal accents.
- Embrace Warm Colours
Say goodbye to cool pastels and hello to warm earthy tones like burnt orange, mustard yellow, and deep burgundy. When adding these pops of colours (and don’t stop at just one!) we like to focus on accent pieces such as throw pillows, blankets and styling. Draw inspiration from your own surroundings to find colours that best suit your space, whether that be artwork. existing furniture pieces and even your own backyard.
2. Cozy Up With Texture
Now that you’ve got your colours sorted, it’s time to bring in some texture. This element is KEY to making your living room feel warm and cozy. The best way to do achieve this is to ensure you’ve introduced a variety of materiality. Chunky knit pillows, tassel end blankets & hand- knotted rugs are just some ideas that string to mind!
3. Bring The Outdoors In
Autumn is all about nature, so why not bring some of it inside? Dependant on the scale of your living room try displaying a vase of freshly-picked flowers or gather branches and twigs for a seasonal centrepiece, or even hang a modern wreath made from colourful leaves. Think outside the box when it comes to bringing in nature, I love even being inspired by my own backyard!
4. Light It Up
As the days get shorter, lighting becomes even more important. To set the ambience be sure to consider that you have sufficient warm lighting throughout your space. Table lamps, floor lamps and candles are
some of our go to’s to adding in that low-level lighting, it’s the perfect ambience to play off the warm tones you’ve just introduced into the space!
Design Tip: To level up, you could even consider a scented candle to really bring in the autumn vibes!
5. Swap Out Accessories
One of our favourite ways (and probably the simplest) is swapping out your styling accessories! Start replacing those summery accents like seashells and coral with autumn-inspired décor such as pumpkins, acorns and pinecones. It’s these smaller accessories used in conjunction with larger styling pieces that really make all the difference!
6. Add Cozy Layers
Layering is KEY to creating a cosy and inviting living room (also a key element to snuggling up with a good book or movie!). Mixing and matching various pillows & blankets will help give more of a relaxed vibe to your living room whilst also making it more functional as those extra pillows and blankets will definitely be of use as the cooler nights kick in…
