Darren James wins ‘Large Kitchen Designer of the Year – Qld’ at the recent KBDi Design 09 Awards held on the Gold Coast
The modern European inspired design not only impressed the judges with it’s chic look but more importantly was exactly what the clients ordered, boasting style and sophistication while embracing all aspects of function and storage required for an active family of four.
Owners Brian and Melissa McGowen and their two-children enjoy cooking and entertain often and wanted a kitchen with the ‘wow’ factor – something modern and sophisticated without compromising on the functionality.
The result is a truly a stunning uncomplicated design that incorporates luxurious finishes that differed from the standard two-pack kitchen. A selection of high-end materials was incorporated in the design to contribute to the kitchen’s
outstanding aesthetic quality.
A combination of different textures and finishes were incorporated to ensure high aesthetic qualities as well as top performance.
Gorgeous marble benchtops give the impression of elegance while adding character and a sense of light to the room.
Adding to the visual appeal is the textured veneer as a dominant feature in the cabinetry. The natural feel of the veneer complements the honed travertine flooring while also creating an eye-catching contrast to the aluminium glass frame doors and custom stainless steel benchtops.
The absence of handles emphasizes the streamline and minalistic appeal of the kitchen and the incorporation of the mirror splashback not only adds to the sense of space but ensures nothing is taken away the sophisticated simplicity that this kitchen already boasts.
In keeping with the seamless minimalistic design, the kitchen incorporates a range of integrated appliances including an integrated fridge freezer and dishwasher. The selected range of stainless steel Miele appliances enhance the cutting edge look whilst providing all the functional requirements of the clients healthy cooking style.
