I think it’s fair to say that 2020 has seen its fair share of major events and (unwanted) surprises! Don’t get me wrong, every year has its defining moments, but this past 12 months has been world changing!!!
As the World continues to deal with the aftermath of what has been one hell of a crazy year and our work year draws to a close, we are taking 5 to share some of our reflections on the year that was…
Like many others, we were not immune to the side effects of the pandemic… Initially all the uncertainty resulted in a number of clients deciding to put their projects on hold, however, we did consider ourselves lucky that we were able to keep the job sites open for those projects that were mid-renovation. Mind you, it was not quite business as usual. With all the new procedures and measures in place to ensure the health and safety of both our trades and clients, the day to day running of our sites was quite a juggle. Then we also felt the the immense impact of the disruption to the supply chain for all our building materials, parts, and furnishings. It has been a challenge navigating these uncertain times, that is for sure!
On a local front, our Melbournian neighbours have really felt it – with many of our furniture and lighting manufacturers having to close their doors completely. This has resulted in delays and disruptions for both us and our clients, but nothing compares to the disruptions I know they must have felt. Here is hoping 2021 is a much better year!
As a business, we have been left to make some pretty critical business decisions over the last 12 months and it has been no easy feat. I am a true believer that people’s true colours shine in times of need, and I honestly could not be more proud of how the team have handled themselves and supported each other. Darren and I count ourselves extremely lucky and are forever grateful that as a team we have pushed through these uncertainties and challenges.
No doubt all these changes can be a little scary, but with change also comes the opportunity for growth. In so many ways our entire world is being completely re-designed RIGHT NOW! As we all transition to this new way of working and living we are being forced to flex and evolve, both in real-time and in the long-term. We now look at our homes and workplaces completely different and with this comes a huge opportunity and responsibility for us as residential interior designers.
Pandemic aside, there have been many happy moments that we can look back on. It’s also been a super successful year for many of our projects on the award fronts. Here is a re-cap of these…
2020 KBDi Kitchen and Bathroom Design Awards
2020 HIA Brisbane Kitchen and Bathroom Awards, and 2020 Queensland Interior Design Awards
2020 HIA CSR Queensland Housing Awards
Last but certainly not least, as the work year draws to a close, on behalf of the team here at Darren James Interiors we want to thank all our suppliers and beautiful clients for all their support (and patience) over the past year. We look forward to picking back up in the new year with some fresh and exciting projects to share with you all!
Anyway, that’s enough from me, so without further ado let’s here from the team – 2020, a year that we will never forget!!!
