As we all know – trends come and go. The kitchen is the hub of any home and can be one of the most commonly renovated spaces in order to keep up with the most modern looks and appliances. With 2016 in full swing, there are a number of trends we have seen become popular for Aussie kitchens, and below are a few of the trends we think will last the distance:
Metals and metallic
Precious metals in the home have been popular for a number of years and it looks like this love affair won’t end in 2016. Warmer metallics tend to take front and centre in the kitchen, with brass, gold and copper proving popular additions that change up the traditional silver fittings and fixtures. Tread carefully – these metals can be overwhelming, so it is important to make them a feature piece through lighting fixtures, tapware or handles for cabinetry.
Texture-on-texture
Similar to what we said in our previous bathroom trends post, texture is also finding popularity in the kitchen. The idea here is to use different materials to create textures, usually through the use of splashbacks, flooring and benchtops, with differing materials. Textured tiles, glass splashbacks and timber flooring are all popular choices that combine together well to create a beautiful result.
Open plan spaces
The kitchen is often coined the heart of the home; a social place where friends and family often come together over delicious food and drink. To connect this buzzing room to the rest of the home, many home owners are turning to open floor plans to allow for easy multitasking. Making this room an active part of the family home is definitely an engaging way to draw in guests over a hearty home cooked meal.
Clever lighting
Lighting is a little more complicated than many people think and in spaces like the kitchen, where sufficient illumination is important for every task, good lighting is crucial. Cabinet lighting above benchtops is becoming more popular in a bid to make the most of storage space while still providing functionality. This can be combined with decorative lighting such as pendants and lamps to maintain a certain aesthetic without sacrificing practicality.
