Re-building a house brings many benefits including the opportunity to plan a kitchen to meet every requirement. Presented with a large blank canvas the owners requested that I design a kitchen that reflected who they are and how they love. For this young family of four this meant creating a bright hub of family life, a space where this young family of four and all those who enter it can enjoy the informal freedom of this busy space. The result truly expresses the evolved ‘living room kitchen’ – an integrated living solution combining kitchen, casual dining, entertainment and in this case study. Unity was an important element when it came to the success of the integration of this kitchen living, alfresco and study space. Repeating elements such as the cabinetry throughout all the zones gives this ‘Living Room’ kitchen cohesion.
Clean lines and simple minimalist shapes bring order to this busy room and reflect a space this functional and durable. Accentuated by the textural finishes of the veneer and earthy colour scheme, this kitchen delivers a timeless and enduring appeal. Ensuring the palette of colours and materials was consistent across the entire space played an important role in creating visual continuity.
