The Australian Woodworking Industry Suppliers Association, or commonly abbreviated to AWISA, kicked off on Wednesday the 6th and finished up on Saturday the 9th August.
It’s the trade show to attend if you’re involved in any industries that involve, cabinets, joinery, furniture, timber and panel.
As a first timer and even a newbie to the industry, I’m Claire, the ‘intern girl’ at Darren James Interiors; I experienced a definite fish-out-of-water moment, I was the lost sheep in a sea of suits…you get my drift.
After getting lost on my way to the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, I was even handed a map!
I finally made it inside and I set upon my next mission of finding the Darren James Interiors team (Darren, Mitch, Rachel and Karlee)
The first section you walk into is more on the manufacturing side, but as I knew this wouldn’t bring me luck searching for the team I continued on and into the middle section, which was where I struck gold.
Want to know what stand I found them all at, working hard and sourcing new and upcoming products…the café. That’s right. The first stop on the team’s agenda was refuelling both energy and caffeine levels. Darren’s order of two slices of pizza, which to his misfortune arrived on two separate plates, a detail that wasn’t missed by the Darren James Interiors team, and what led to “#fatty!”
After the pitt stop it was a carousel of stands, each displaying an amazing array of products and possibilties for entire homes. The first on the teams must-see list was International company, Blum, who’s product launch was attended by Darren James the previous night!
The team are admiring some products Blum had on offer, the Ambia-Line range which includes interchangable metallic boxes in the bottom drawer. These are being demonstrated by Blum representative, Toby in the video to the right…(just double click on the picture)
Next was Linark. While Darren and Mitch were busy sussing out the ins and outs of the base lift, Rachel and Karlee were doing some in-depth reading of their own…
However their reading focussed more around what they discovered in the candy bowl, the back of the fantail packet! At every stand there were these glorious bowls of sweets that were a popular hit among the Darren James Interiors team.
Moving onto Mike, from Oliveri Sinks, where the candy bowl once again was visited, repeatedly by Mitch, where Goodie bags were collected and where the team admired the beautiful new lines on offer, including modern black glass drainers and coloured sinks to add a modern take to any Darren James Interiors kitchen.
From there it was Slice Veneers, where the team collected a beautiful sample of FSC Certified Wood, which coincides with Darren James Interiors company direction to use materials that are sustainable, eco friendly, ethically sourced and of course timeless!
After Slice Veneers the team moved to Pytha, who creates software used when designing furniture, houses and/or interiors as it easily demonstrates the planning, presentation and production stages of each design project. The program can operate in both 2D and 3D, is quick to model in and other designs can be added into the program which comes in handy when doing a renovation. Michael supplied the team with an in-depth and knowledgeable demonstration, while I slipped away and headed home. After all, it was way above my head.
