Remote working, often affectionately dubbed ‘WFH’ (Work From Home), has transitioned from a temporary arrangement to a mainstay in our daily lives. This evolution has sparked a significant demand for home offices, transforming them from a luxury into a necessity for many. For us, as interior designers, the challenge and opportunity to create functional, beautiful workspaces in homes have never been more exciting and essential.
However, the reality is that not everyone has the privilege of dedicating a whole room to become their home office. But here’s the good news: you don’t need to have an expansive space to craft a productive work environment. With a dash of creativity and the right organizational tools, you can turn even the most unassuming corner of your home into a productive oasis. Whether it’s transforming a quiet corner of your living room, utilizing that underused nook in your hallway, or even carving out space on your kitchen table, there are endless possibilities to explore.
Today on the blog, we’re sharing our top planning tips to help you design an organised and efficient home office space, no matter the size of your canvas. From selecting the right furniture that maximizes your space, to organisational hacks that keep your workflow smooth and clutter-free, we’re here to guide you through every step of the way.
Smart Integration
Smart integration is essential for not only at optimising the functionality of your space, but can help conceal some of those bulky items rather than having on display. (perfectly ideal for this multi-functional spaces!) Where possible, we always opt to incorporate some sort of printer integrated storage whether that be within a drawer itself or on a pull-out shelf behind cupboard doors.
Incorporating power within your general drawer storage is great too, with so many different hand held devices required these days, your desk top can quickly become quite chaotic, having the capability to store these items out of sight (whilst still charging!), means a clean workspace without compromising on functionality!
Cable Management
When it comes to optimising productivity, a clear desk space has to be top priority! As we mentioned earlier, almost every body is working with multiple hand held devices and screens these days, and that comes with even more cables & chargers attached… Best solution is to ensure all power is located below your desk top, then it’s as simple as allowing for a cable cut out in your bench for all your cables to feed through!

Custom Joinery
Where possible, going custom with your furniture and storage solutions will allow you to make the most out of your space, by catering to your own specific work flow and requirements. Planning is key when it comes to going custom, we like to cover off all basis during the planning phase, measuring out sizing & quantities for storage requirements. It’s also important to not only think about what you require now, but well into the future. When committing to custom joinery it’s important that space can evolve and adapt with you over the years.
Personalisation
Now that all the clutter and bulky devices are out of sight, it’s time to bring some life into the space – after all your working environment should be an enjoyable space to be in! We love styling up some open shelving with things that inspire us the most, whether that being books of your particular interests, your favourite scented candle or creative artwork.
Happy Organising!
