But that’s not all – thoughtfully designed lighting also supports better sleep habits and ensures your bedroom is functional and comfortable, no matter the time.
In today’s post, we’re excited to share with you our essential tips for designing bedroom lighting. Whether you’re jolted awake by an early alarm or easing into a relaxing evening, we’ll guide you on how to make your bedroom lighting not only look fantastic but also serve your needs perfectly. Let’s make your bedroom shine in both functionality and style!
Ambient Lighting
Let’s face it: the standard downlights that are a staple in most bedrooms are often too harsh – and that’s a big no-no for a room meant for relaxation! We’ve become so used to this glaring level of illumination, but it’s time to break away from that norm.
Being a place of relaxation, it’s important that the lighting in your bedroom allows you to do so! Low level, ambient lighting is essential for those early morning wake up calls or even just winding down for the evening. Best way and most simple way to ensure you achieve this is to conceal the direct light source. Recessed wall washing LED lights or even a light designed with a shade the conceals the bulb / light source are our go-to’s when it comes to adding in ambience.
Feature Lighting
Just because we want to soften the level of lighting, doesn’t mean that we don’t want it to still be a statement!
Beautiful pendants, wall lights and even a bedside table lamps are still very much still wanted in the space! As long as you are understanding where the light will be placed and it functions well for it’s purpose. Some of our favourite feature lighting for bedrooms are pendants with up lights which allows light to illuminate the ceiling above and bounce around the space. Wall washing wall sconces, have to be another favourite as this will also add to the level of ambience in the space, not to mention be a beautiful feature to the wall!
Task Lighting
Not only does your lighting need to look beautiful, but it has to be equally as functional! With so many different styles and designs out there – typically it’s about understanding what you require your lighting for that will help narrow down your choices! If you love reading in bed to switch off for the day then a directional wall light is perfectly suited
Sensor Lighting
A luxury that people often don’t think about until it’s too late… It could also be a matter of having more control over your lighting, we always opt to separate the switching controls of task lighting over feature lighting over even low level / ambient lighting. Applying a sensor to the low level lighting is a must for our bedrooms! We even recommend carrying this low level sensor lighting into your ensuite if you can – you’ll definitely thank yourself later on those early morning wake up calls!
