Fred International is a Scandinavian furniture and lighting brand curator representing over 10 brands from Sweden, Denmark and Finland here in Australia. With two beautiful apartment / studio spaces based in both Sydney and Melbourne, Fred International has become a favourite furniture supplier of ours! So when we heard they were also heading over to Copenhagen for 3DaysofDesign we knew we had to get involved with them for the trip!

This years 3 Days of Design 2022 was special. Not only because it was held, for the first time, in summer, or because of the incredible diversity of events. More so that it had been over 2 years since we had last set foot in Europe and we felt a sense of freedom, optimism and energy whilst experiencing great design is this beautiful, historic city. With over 200 + exhibitions it was a tough task to narrow it down to just a few, but here goes.
Design Museum of Denmark

An institution in Denmark and a must visit when travelling in Copenhagen, The Design Museum Denmark had just completed nearly 3 years of renovation by OEO Studios. Located in the heart of historic Copenhagen, the museum successfully attempts to capture the design heritage of Denmark.
On the grounds of the museum, Fritz Hansen built the Fritz Hansen Pavilion, designed by Henning Larsen Architects, which won Best Exhibition. The structure is being used for workshops and talks through the summer then is to be recycled and reconstructed at the Fritz Hansen Headquarters. A perfect example of sustainable design.
SUNDOWNER for LYFA

An iconic pendant, the soft curves and opposite-facing shades are designed prior to Utzon’s architectural masterpiece, the Sydney Opera House. With its dynamic design, the SUNDOWNER pendant expresses a clear linkage to the unique shell structures that have adorned the Sydney Harbour for more than half a century. Affectionally named ’Sundowner’ after the Australian tradition of having a drink as the last rays of light disappear over the horizon and relaunched in three sizes and four colour combinations.
The Sundowner is a nod to Australia, our history and our connection with Denmark through the brilliant architect Jørn Utzon. And we were lucky enough to have Jan Utzon, the son of Jørn, launch Sundowner in the Brdr Kruger showroom at 3DaysofDesign.
Georg Jensen – Shaped by Silver Exhibition
Danish Silversmith founded in Copenhagen in 1904

A perfect example of a heritage brand that continues to capture it’s essence whilst launching beautiful and relevant pieces. Georg Jensen celebrates its silver icons with a special installation by Copenhagen-based design and architecture studio Spacon & X. Titled ‘Shaped by Silver’, the exhibition includes pieces by Verner Panton and Henning Koppel, as well as the most recent launch of vases by Nendo. The Nendo vases were one of my favourite launches at the event.
LIVING ICONS featuring DUX
Dux at Galerie Mikael Andersen

A new addition to the Fred collection of brands, Duxiana (or DUX) is a pioneer in the field of comfortable beds and iconic furniture. With a focus on timeless aesthetics and sustainable design, DUX creates collections that last for generations. Their collection includes design icons such as the Jetson, Karin and Pernilla armchairs, by renowned designer Bruno Mathsson. Nordic materials with wonderful textures and a largely natural color palette combined to achieve refined harmony.
The exhibition curated by Pernille Vest was understated and perfectly beautiful. Sometimes less is more!
The Home of Hans Bølling

Brdr Krüger and The American Hardwood Export Council @ahec_europe present the exhibition ‘The Home of Hans Bølling’. A carefully consider and curated exhibition by architect and Artist Sasra Martinsen @frk_vinthermartinsen where a new lounge chair, a stool and a coffee table were launched, inspired by the Bolling tray table, designed in 1963 by Hans Bølling. Built to last in the Brdr. Krüger 5th generation workshop in Denmark.

The New Modernist by Mazo

Mazo presents their collection and new launches as classics of tomorrow in a ’new modernist’ home during 3DaysofDesign in Copenhagen. The organized mid-century living room meets a modern homeowner inspired by Modernism. The new modernist remembers where we come from but looks to the future and places Mazo in a modern and honest reality where classic elements of modernist design are updated with a palette of contemporary materials and rich exclusive textures and colours.
The event was fun and fabulous. The designs and curation of the space captured Mazo. New launches include FER – a new table series for the living room, YUKI – a table lamp in glass, and RAE – a sculptural mirror for the home.
Forever Pieces by Fogia Collection

The Swedish brand Fogia opened their new Copenhagen showroom and presented Forever pieces along with launching the new Lyra lounge. Two floors and beautifully curated furniture and quite frankly one of the most comfortable sofas armchairs you might ever sit in.
Helle Mardahl Studio
Exhibition by Helle Mardahl – Drinks in Wonderland / Sweet Escape

The dreamy exhibition at the new Helle Mardahl Studio was a personal highlight. Lavish, extravagant, flamboyant and just plain wonderful! A combination of sculptures, art installations and also interiors products from lighting to glassware, Helle is true talent with a singular vision. I think I overstayed my welcome as I wanted to live in her world for as long as possible.
We’re all already excited for 3DaysofDesign next year!
