Maximising your storage is important regardless of the size of your home and smart storage plays a huge role in ensuring your home is clutter free and functional.
For many, the space under the stairs can often be considered as an awkward area which is probably why we often see it neglected. But despite it’s awkward size, there are so many design opportunities! Whether that be for storage or practical use!
Today on the blog we are sharing some design ideas to get you thinking more creatively when it comes to storage solutions for that blank spot under your stairs.
Bench Seat
A styled bench seat can work in most interiors regardless of the style! If your staircase is situated at the entry it’s the perfect spot for kids to pop their shoes on and off – even consider including some concealed storage below to hide shoes and bags – rather than having them piled up at the front door! For those whose staircase is set away from the entry the bench seat can become its own little reading nook. Style it up with cushions, a throw and even a decorative wall light and you have yourself your ideal hide away spot!
Console Table
We are huge fans of styled console tables! Every home needs somewhere to throw your keys and other bits and pieces when you get home at the end of the day and the entry of your home is ideal. If it works for your home, perhaps consider tucking your console away under your stairs. Console tables come in a variety of shapes and sizes that you can find one to work with almost any staircase. It’s then simply a matter of styling it up with some beautiful artwork or mirror and layer with some accessories and you have yourself the perfect combination of practicality and aesthetics.
Study Nook
Not everybody is able to dedicate a whole room to a study, nor is it even necessary to dedicate that much space to a home office. Maybe you only need a small space to store and sort through your bills and tackle your emails – hence a built in study nook might be the way to go! Even being an awkward shaped space, under your staircase could be the perfect home for a seated desk! Even if your staircase is adjacent to a thoroughfare, sticking to a stool that can be tucked away when not in use means it takes up next to no space at all!
Wine Storage
For those with a notable wine collection, this one’s for you! There is so much customisation available with materials, racking and lighting that you can really cater it to your home and collection! However there are a lot of logistics when it comes to storing your wine properly so be sure to do your research before tackling the project!
Book Shelving
The timeless addition to any home… book shelving! Being able to fill your space with current inspiration which can of course grow over time means making a space perfectly unique t to you! You can learn a lot about somebody by what they read and it’s a great way to really express yourself in your home. Whether it be novels or magazines there is something so intriguing about walking into somebody else’s home and seeing their collections on display.
