With our changing lifestyles comes the evolution of the modern-day bathroom – now an inartful retreat that evokes feelings of wellness and relaxation in the comfort of our own home!
Much like the rest of the home, bathroom styles and designs vary around the world based on culture and lifestyle. One of the beauties of design is when we see these traditional cultures and rituals, it inspires universal trends! From aesthetics to layout, we share some of our favourite international bathroom trends for 2021!
Tile Play
This can be interpreted one of many ways… from colour, style, format, finish, to physical application… there is no doubt tiles breath life into any bathroom space and play a huge role in the look and feel of a space!
Blurred Lines
These days bathrooms focus a lot on being an escape from daily life, a time to wind down and relax. There is so much research out there relating the outdoors with our mental health and wellbeing and it is no wonder that our need to feel closer to nature and our natural surroundings has carried across to bathroom design. More and more we see the boundaries between indoor and outdoor being eased or eliminated entirely.
Wet Rooms
Originally derived from Japan, the contemporary wet room can have the ability to create a true spa like showering experience at home! By combining and zoning off your shower and bathtub to the rest of the elements within the space it can open up more creative design options – especially when space is limited not to mention they are great for improving ergonomics and accessibility.
Open it up!
The open plan ensuite – combining bedroom, walk in robe and ensuite all in one is a trend that is here to stay. The concept may seem like a bold design move but as we see the master suite retreat grow in size and popularity, when designed right, it really can create the ultimate escape haven (from the kids – haha)!
